Internet Delivery Is Safe (IDIS)

IDIS is an official merchant accreditation scheme for delivery standards and best practice for on-line retailers. IDIS is a sub set and extension of the ISIS Code of Practice for e-Commerce

On-line product purchasing from high street, online and auction site retailers has grown faster than any other aspect of internet shopping. It estimates that the UK purchased 250 million products, via the internet, and all were delivered in the 2 months run up to Christmas 2009. This equated to a total on-line spend of over £12 billion by more than 27.5 million people, giving an averages spend of £434 per person.

Consumer spending in the UK is going through a stated of transition with more and more people acquire goods on-line. On-line shopping provides more choice, convenience of 24/7 availability and more competitive prices due to lower overheads and increased turnover. Home delivery, although useful to many from the ease of not having to visit the retailer’s premises, could be a hindrance when parcels are over sized for the letter boxes and the purchaser is not available working hours Monday to Friday.

On-line retailing industry and parcel delivery companies are making great strides to improving the convenience and reliability of home delivery services by giving shoppers greater choice about when and where their items are to be delivered. The industry recognises that these requirements are a minimum in order to continue the growth in the on-line retail business and confidence of the consumer to see this as a viable alternate to high street shopping.

Retailers and parcel delivery companies displaying the IDIS logo are audited and approved bodies under the ISIS Code of Practice for e-Commerce and comply with the IDIS Charter in order to supply the on-line consumer with the right to:

  • Clear delivery information before order placement
  • Convenient and reliable delivery service
  • Notification of any delivery limitations / conditions
  • Charges that are complete and simple to understand
  • Access to information on your order progress / history
  • Delivery within the agreed time frame
  • Helpful support with failed / late / attempted deliveries
  • Your goods arriving in good condition
  • A clear returns process, with any limitations / conditions notified prior to purchase

Through this Charter and the ISIS Code of Practice, the on-line retail industry is striving for 100% home delivery success, lower cost or zero cost deliveries and improved consumer confidence which will ultimately lead to an expanded and mutually beneficial on-line retail industry.
