Jacqueline Wilson Books.
Jacqueline Wilson, born 1945, has been a children’s author since the early 1970’s, although she became truly popular in the 1990’s and 2000’s. With books like The Story of Tracy Beaker (1992), The Bed and Breakfast Star (1994) and The Illustrated Mum (1999), Wilson has captured the hearts of children and grown-ups alike. The popularity of her books is widely believed to be down to the strong and gritty topics that Wilson covers. Wilson has covered homelessness, divorce, mental illness, adoption and many other issues that many young children are forced to deal with in real life, but very few authors dare to write about. This may have made Wilson a potentially controversial writer, but kids love her for it, nevertheless. Several of Wilson’s books have been adapted into well-received television productions, including The Illustrated Mum (2003), adapting for Channel 4 and starring popular actor Michelle Collins, and the successful television series The Story of Tracy Beaker, which ran from 2002 until 2005, and returned to the CBBC channel in 2010.
